Right now, Beirut and Lebanon are under tremendous pressure. In recent years, Lebanon has gone through a civil war, a refugee crisis, an economic crisis that threatens more than half of the population below the poverty line, and most recently the COVID-19 pandemic. Last Tuesday, it all got so much worse when a giant explosion destroyed large parts of Beirut.
Through our long time involvement in the Middle East we are in contact with the First Armenian Evangelical Church, which is close to the port of Beirut. As a church, we want to pray for the people of Beirut, we especially want to pray that the young generations find hope and light in the middle of a chaotic everyday life.
We also want to support financially by sending a gift to the First Armenian Evangelical Church, so that the church down there can be rebuilt, and can support the locals' great need for help and support for their own homes, for medical expenses and for the many other needs that people in Beirut are experiencing right now.
The picture is from last Saturday, where the church's young people removed glass and broken materials from the First Armenian Evangelical Church, so that the building can once again frame the worship services.
Last Sunday, August 9th, the church raised 45,000 kroner for this purpose - thank you to everyone who contributed, this is a wonderful blessing for the local church in Beirut.
